Editor’s note: General Secretary Xi Jinping of the CPC Central Committee and the Committee received congratulatory messages from leaders of political parties and governments from around the world as the CPC celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding on July 1. Here is an edited summary of some messages received from leaders and entities in Africa, Europe and the Americas:

Abdelmadjid Tebboune, president of Algeria, said the CPC has led China in making great achievements, allowing China to proudly take its place in the family of nations, particularly in terms of playing an active role in supporting the cause of global justice as well as world peace.
Joao Lourenco, president of Angola and president of the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola party, said China has made important contributions to Angola’s development.
Alberto Fernandez, president of Argentina, said the CPC has adapted to the changing times and played a great role in China’s economic and social development.
Patrice Talon, president of Benin, said the CPC centenary will open a new era of greater happiness for the Chinese people.
Communist parties in Latin America, including those in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Peru and Venezuela, jointly extended congratulations. They said that under Xi’s leadership, the CPC has honored its promise to seek happiness for its people and has been continuously making great achievements, which proves convincingly that building socialism is not only possible, but also absolutely necessary for the well-being of humanity.
Gleisi Hoffmann, president of the Workers’ Party in Brazil, and Romenio Pereira, the party’s secretary for international relations, said that under Xi’s leadership, the CPC has persisted in a people-centered approach. Rodrigo Pacheco, a leader of Brazil’s Democrats Party and president of the National Congress of Brazil, said they will continue to work to promote Brazil-China relations.
Milorad Dodik, chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and head of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, said the CPC has led China in making important contributions to world peace and development.
Evariste Ndayishimiye, president of Burundi, said Xi and the CPC have led the Chinese people to hold their destiny in their own hands, allowing China to stand at the forefront of world development.
Paul Biya, president of Cameroon and president of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, said the CPC has served as the backbone for the Chinese nation and contributed to China’s rise on the global stage.
Azali Assoumani, president of Comoros and the honorary president of the Convention for the Renewal of the Comoros, said he believes that under the wise leadership of the CPC, China will continue to prosper.
Denis Sassou Nguesso, president of Congo, said his country is ready to work with China to deepen their partnership.
Guillermo Lasso, president of Ecuador, said his country attaches great importance to Ecuador-China ties and aims to strength them further.
Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, president of Egypt, noted that the CPC led China to achieve national independence and lay the foundation for building a modern China.
Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, president of Equatorial Guinea and also president of the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea, said the CPC has led the Chinese people to successfully find the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and achieve rapid economic and social development.
Isaias Afwerki, president of Eritrea and chairman of Eritrea’s People’s Front for Democracy and Justice party, said China has made important contributions to world peace and development.
Ali Bongo Ondimba, president of Gabon, said he stands ready to work with Xi to further deepen the Gabon-China cooperative partnership.
Adama Barrow, president of Gambia, said the CPC has led the Chinese people to achieve great achievements in poverty eradication and economic development.
George Papandreou, president of Socialist International — an international association of social democratic, socialist and labor parties — and a former prime minister of Greece, said Socialist International is ready to work with the CPC to deal with global challenges.
Alpha Conde, president of Guinea and the founder of the Rally of the People of Guinea party, said that under CPC leadership, with Xi at the core, China has made comprehensive progress in various fields, setting an example for people across the world.
Micheal Martin, prime minister of Ireland, said his country looks to deepen mutually beneficial relations with China and work together to promote world peace and development. Sean O Fearghail, speaker of the lower house of the Irish parliament, said it has been proved repeatedly that the CPC has infinite energy, enthusiasm and wisdom in leading the Chinese people.
Uhuru Kenyatta, president of Kenya, noted that China has met the poverty eradication target set in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule.
Taneti Maamau, president of Kiribati, said that under the guidance of the development vision outlined by Xi, China has become an engine of the world economy.
Mohamed Menfi, chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya, said he looks forward to working with Xi to realize the common interests of the people of the two countries.
Assimi Goita, transitional president of Mali, said under the wise CPC leadership, China has become one of the world’s most influential countries.
President of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin, who is also a former Moldovan president, noted that the CPC Central Committee with Xi at its core has shown the world a vision of making peace rather than war, seeking unity rather than hostility, and moving forward rather than backpedaling.
Hage Geingob, leader of the South West Africa People’s Organization and the president of Namibia, said the CPC is the vanguard against imperialism, colonialism and racism.
Seini Oumarou, president of the National Assembly in Niger, congratulated China on its victory against poverty and said he looks forward to mutually beneficial cooperation.
General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party Jeronimo de Sousa said in a message from Portugal that the CPC has led China to play an increasingly important role on the world stage.
Marcel Ciolacu, leader of the Social Democratic Party in Romania, said his party stands ready to maintain the momentum of exchanges with the CPC.
Vladimir Putin, president of Russia, noted that under the CPC, China is playing an important and constructive role in solving major international problems and addressing global threats and challenges.
Paul Kagame, chairman of the Rwandan Patriotic Front and president of Rwanda, said throughout its 100-year-old history, the CPC has been striving unremittingly for the freedom, liberation and happiness of the people.
Macky Sall, president of Senegal and the president of the Alliance for the Republic-Yakaar, said the success of the CPC in leading China’s development is reflected in the nation’s contributions to addressing such global challenges as poverty, terrorism, climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mohamed Farmajo, president of Somalia, said the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by Xi will inject vitality into the economic progress of developing countries.
General Secretary of the South African Communist Party Blade Nzimande said China’s development fully reflects the strength of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Salva Kiir, chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement and the president of South Sudan, said Xi has been committed to upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics.
President of the Communist Party of Spain, Luis Centella, and the party’s general secretary, Enrique Santiago, said CPC has adopted a people-centered approach and oversaw a series of achievements.
Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, chairman of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan, said Sudan is willing to deepen cooperation with China to bring more benefits to both countries.
Ronnie Brunswijk, vice president of Suriname, said the CPC has united and led the Chinese people to make world-renowned achievements, contributing hugely to world peace and prosperity.
Samia Suluhu Hassan, president of Tanzania and chair of Tanzania’s Chama Cha Mapinduzi party, said the CPC has led China to become a major economy.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, president of Turkey and chair of Turkey’s Justice and Development Party, noted that Xi led the CPC to open a new era in China. Dogu Perincek, chairman of Turkey’s Patriotic Party, said the CPC has achieved an unparalleled giant leap forward not only in the Chinese history but also in the history of mankind.
The National Committee of the Communist Party of the United States of America expressed its willingness to work with the CPC to make unremitting efforts for a better and peaceful future for mankind.
Edgar Lungu, president of Zambia, said China has been providing assistance to Zambia within such frameworks as the BRI and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, helping bolster bilateral ties.
Other political figures who sent congratulatory messages to Xi and the CPC were Gaston Browne, prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda who is also leader of the nation’s Labour Party; Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Minnis; Barbados Labour Party leader and prime minister Mia Mottley; Simon Compaore, president of the People’s Movement for Progress of Burkina Faso; Ulisses Correia e Silva, president of the Movement for Democracy and the prime minister of Cape Verde; and Averof Neofytou, president of the Democratic Rally Party in Cyprus.
Also offering their greetings were Roosevelt Skerrit, leader of the Dominica Labour Party and the prime minister of Dominica; Abiy Ahmed, prime minister of Ethiopia and president of the nations’s Prosperity Party; Dominique de Villepin, former prime minister of France; Georgia Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili; Andrew Holness, prime minister of Jamaica and the leader of the Jamaica Labour Party; and Pravind Jugnauth, prime minister of Mauritius who is also leader of the nation’s Militant Socialist Movement party.
Montenegro president and leader of the country’s Democratic Party of Socialists Milo Dukanovic; Morocco prime minister and general secretary of the Justice and Development Party Saadeddine El Othmani, Sao Tome and Principe Prime Minister Jorge Bom Jesus, and Rached Ghannouchi, speaker of Tunisia’s parliament who is also leader of the Ennahda Movement party, also sent congratulatory messages.
