BEIJING - Major Chinese stock indices ended lower Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 3.01 percent, at 2,943.29 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 4.09 percent lower at 11,108.55 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.09 trillion yuan (about US$157 billion), expanding from 957.5 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered gainers 1,281 to 200 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,868 to 314 in Shenzhen.
Stocks in the computer services sector led the losses, with shares of the computer distributer Beijing Shiji Information Technology Co.,Ltd. plunging by the daily limit of 10 percent to 38.59 yuan.
Construction companies are also in the losing territory, as shares of the Shanghai-based Hongrun Construction Group Co., Ltd. skidding by the daily limit to 6.57 yuan apiece.
Meanwhile, shares in the waterways and air transportation sector are among the gainers.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 4.55 percent to close at 2,093.06 points.
