Thailand to replace China in women's handball Olympic Qualification Tournament

BEIJING - Thailand will participate in the women's handball Olympic Qualification Tournament for Tokyo 2020 following China's withdrawal, the International Handball Federation announced on Tuesday.

Thailand became be the 12th team to compete in the Olympic Qualification Tournament

China finished second in the Asian qualifications in September 2019 on home soil, losing Asia's only Olympic slot to South Korea. The withdrawal from the tournament means Team China will not be able to make it to Tokyo 2020.

The women's handball Olympic Qualification Tournaments will be held from March 20 to 22 in Spain, Hungary and Montenegro. The top two finishers of the four teams in each tournament will earn a ticket to Tokyo 2020.
