HONG KONG – Hong Kong logged its highest temperature so far this year on Wednesday, as an anticyclone aloft brought generally fine and extremely hot weather.
As of 2:30 pm, the maximum temperature recorded at the Hong Kong Observatory was 33.7 C, the highest so far this year. The very hot weather warning has been enforced since early Wednesday.
The observatory said the weather will be persistently very hot during the day over the next 48 hours. Extremely hot weather is expected during the day on Friday, with temperatures set to reach 36 to 37 degrees in the New Territories.
With a trough of low pressure edging closer to the coast of southern China, there will be showers and squally thunderstorms over the region later on Friday and Saturday.
An easterly airstream will affect the coast of Guangdong over the weekend. The high temperatures will be alleviated slightly.
