PANAMA CITY - Veteran Argentinian manager Americo Gallego has temporarily stepped aside as head coach of Panama's national team due to ill health, the Central American nation's football federation (Fepaut) said on Monday.

The 64-year-old suffered a "medical emergency" that has left him temporarily unable to fulfil his duties, Fepaut said in a statement. It provided no further details about Gallego's condition.

Panama's assistant coach, Gustavo Raggio, will take charge of the team in Gallego's absence, according to Fepaut.

"We are keeping an eye on [Gallego's] condition and wish him a speedy recovery," the statement read.

Panama's next fixture will be a friendly against Nicaragua in Managua on February 25.
