SHENZHEN — Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) launched a smart campus delivery system last week, deploying a fleet of indoor and outdoor delivery robots alongside intelligent sorting equipment.

The project, developed in partnership with logistics giant SF Holding, aims to provide a replicable model for other campuses and address challenges such as scattered dormitory and teaching buildings, congested package pickup points, and lost or misplaced parcels at open-shelf collection spots.

The newly opened Smart Express Service Center features automated sorting cabinets, sorting robotic arms, and a fleet of delivery robots that coordinate to provide full-campus coverage.

Under the system, unmanned vehicles handle bulk package transfers between sorting stations, while delivery robots — equipped with autonomous navigation and obstacle avoidance, elevator control, intelligent voice notifications, and real-time location tracking — have begun delivering packages to doorsteps across multiple floors in the campus’s main buildings.

The project will also roll out a dormitory doorstep robot delivery service during non-peak hours, as well as a downstairs scheduled pickup service.
