Federal agents searched Representative Ilhan Omar’s Washington-area home in an escalation in the Trump administration’s scrutiny of the Minnesota Democrat, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Tom Homan, the White House official overseeing border policy, told Fox News that a search warrant had been executed on Monday as part of an ongoing investigation into Omar but gave no further details.
Earlier, the Department of Justice also said there had been a search, but did not identify whose home.
Administration officials have said the agency is investigating Omar’s immigration history. The congresswoman has repeatedly denied allegations of wrongdoing, calling them false and politically motivated.

Omar’s Communications Director Jacklyn Rogers said in a statement on Monday that the representative has done nothing wrong.
“This raid by Trump’s DHS is an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies,” Rogers said. “No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies.”
Born in Somalia, Omar fled the country’s civil war with her family at age 8. She spent four years in a refugee camp in Kenya before arriving in the US in 1995 and settling in Minneapolis in 1997.
Omar is an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump and has frequently been the target of his attacks. Trump has called her “crooked” and has repeatedly suggested she should leave the US.
