HONG KONG — BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited (BOC Life) has launched a new phase of its “BOC Life New Generation Financial and Technology Designers” program with partner St. James' Settlement, introducing artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) learning elements for the first time.

The three-year initiative (2026–2029) covers upper primary students across 12 schools and is expected to benefit more than 2,000 students.

Backed by matching funds from the Social Welfare Department's Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged, the program aims to deepen digital and STEAM education in line with the Chief Executive's 2026 Policy Address.

Students will draw on personal experiences and community memories to explore neighborhood needs and mental health issues, using AI and VR to design interactive games and build ideal simulated communities.

Ten-session workshops move students from experiencing games to coding and VR game design, evolving them from “players” into “creators.”

“AI is transitioning from a 'tool' to an 'everyday reality,'” said Vivienne Chiu, chief brand and communications officer of BOC Life, at the launch ceremony. “Through cross-disciplinary integration of coding, AI, financial literacy, and community care, we aim to empower future leaders equipped with innovative mindsets and social responsibility.”

Josephine Lee, chief executive officer of St. James' Settlement, said the program helps students “develop the ability to observe their community and respond to social needs with creativity and empathy.”

The program, which began in 2021 using the MIT App Inventor platform, has already benefited nearly 800 students across 30 schools.
