Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Tuesday that the Lai Ching-te authorities' attempt to distort UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 has once again exposed their "Taiwan independence" separatist nature, adding that their fallacy cannot change the historical and legal fact that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China.

UNGA Resolution 2758 confirms the one-China principle, Mao said, adding it is this resolution that "decides to restore all its rights to the People's Republic of China and to recognize the representatives of its Government as the only legitimate representatives of China to the United Nations".

She stressed that once and for all, UNGA Resolution 2758 resolved, politically, legally, and procedurally, the issue of the representation of the whole of China, including Taiwan, at the UN.

It also made it clear that there can only be one seat representing China at the UN, and that no issues exist about so-called "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan", she added.

"There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory," Mao said. "Taiwan has never been a country and it will never be one."

The Lai Ching-te authorities' attempts cannot change the historical and legal facts that both sides of the Strait belong to one China, nor shake the international community's commitment to the one-China principle, Mao added.
