Chinese shares close higher Monday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.15 percent to 3,858.25 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.72 percent higher at 14,148.73 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at 2.08 trillion yuan ($306.3 billion), rising from 1.94 trillion yuan in the previous trading day.

Brain-computer interface, electronic chemicals and electronic components were among the biggest gainers, while oil and gas exploration and services led the declines.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.16 percent to close at 3,590.79 points.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 2.49 percent higher at 1,989.31 points.
