BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed mixed on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.11 percent to 4,091.89 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.93 percent higher at 15,675.25 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices reached 3.06 trillion yuan ($449.3 billion), slightly up from 3.05 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Supercapacitor and non-metallic materials stocks led the gains, while port and shipping as well as insurance stocks were among the biggest losers.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.72 percent on Tuesday to close at 4,102.94 points.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.27 percent higher at 2,155.57 points.
