BEIJING - The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday urged attention to whether Japan is intentionally stirring up troubles and making close-in provocations to justify its own military buildup.

Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular news briefing in response to a query about a land lease deal reportedly signed by Japan's Defense Ministry for deploying a mobile surveillance radar unit on the easternmost island of Okinawa to monitor the activities of Chinese aircraft carriers and airplanes.

US urged to stop arming Taiwan

Meanwhile, the United States should immediately cease its dangerous act of arming Taiwan, Guo said when commenting on the US approval of a massive package of arms sales to the Taiwan region.

The US side has brazenly announced the plan to sell advanced weapons to Taiwan, which seriously violates the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, Guo said.

The US move severely undermines China's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. It seriously disrupts peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and sends a gravely erroneous signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, Guo said.
