
Hong Kong competitors continued to shine at the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games on Wednesday, securing two golds, three silvers, and one bronze in swimming and track and field events.
Swimmer Cheung Ho-ying started the day by breaking the national record in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke SB14 event in Shenzhen, winning in 1 minute, 19.51 seconds, followed closely by teammate Chan Yui-lam in second place.
The pair had opened up a big lead over their rivals by the halfway point, with Cheung pulling ahead of Chan in the final stretch and winning by 0.64 second.

Afterward, Cheung said she was happy with her performance, adding that she will strive for an even stronger showing in upcoming events. Chan said she was satisfied with her performance, having secured her second silver medal at the meet.
The pair continued to excel in the pool during the SM14 200m individual medley final, when Chan took the gold in a national record time of 2 minutes, 29.26 seconds, while Cheung claimed silver in 2 minutes, 34.54 seconds.
Choi Chi-keung earned bronze in the men’s 100m breaststroke SB14 final.

Earlier in the day, Yam Kwok-fan finished second in the women’s T36 200m final in 32.83 seconds, behind Hunan Paralympian Shi Yiting. This ensured Yam her second silver medal following her effort in the T36 100m on Tuesday.
The Hong Kong-Macao women finished fourth in the team foil wheelchair fencing event. The Hong Kong men’s team also placed fourth, in the team wheelchair sabre competition.
On Tuesday, Hong Kong’s para-table tennis players wrapped up their campaign with an impressive haul of nine gold, six silver and four bronze medals.

The combined 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games continue across Guangdong province, Hong Kong, and Macao through Monday.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is hosting four events: boccia, wheelchair fencing and table tennis (Class TT11) for para competitors, and table tennis for Special Olympics. The Macao SAR is hosting badminton competitions for both meets.
