Danish shipping group's new facility in Shanghai spans 113,000 sq m

AP Moller-Maersk, a Danish shipping and logistics group, will further bolster its land-based business in China to tap new growth opportunities across the entire logistics chain, senior executives said.
In a sign of that push, the Copenhagen-based firm unveiled its flagship logistics center in Lingang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone last week, marking one of its largest global warehousing investments.
Representing an investment of over $140 million, the facility spans 113,000 square meters and offers 147,000 square meters of storage space.
Maersk, which operates in more than 130 countries and regions and employs around 100,000, said the new logistics center offers a full suite of fulfillment services and is designed to serve customers in China, across the Asia-Pacific region, and beyond.
"China is not only the world's largest exporter, but also a key consumer market," said Vincent Clerc, CEO of Maersk, adding that this facility will significantly enhance the group's omnichannel fulfilment capabilities and further strengthen the connection between China and international markets.

"It is another testament to our commitment to continuously evolve our logistics solutions, helping customers overcome trade challenges and unlock new growth opportunities," he said.
Silvia Ding, managing director of Maersk China, said that China's foreign trade is evolving from an export-driven model to a more diversified approach, encompassing exports, imports and transshipments.
Ding said businesses are increasingly seeking unified inventory management to meet a wide range of trade demands.
"With the omnichannel fulfilment capabilities of this new warehouse, customers can now achieve this goal and efficiently meet both B2B and B2C requirements," she added.
China's foreign trade grew 3.6 percent year-on-year to 37.31 trillion yuan ($5.27 trillion) in the first 10 months, said the General Administration of Customs.
