SEOUL - The Republic of Korea offered Monday to hold military talks with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to prevent accidental clashes and ease military tensions along the inter-Korean border.

Kim Hong-cheol, deputy defense minister for national defense policy, said in a statement that some of the DPRK troops recently continued to cross the military demarcation line (MDL) inside the demilitarized zone (DMZ) and encroach upon ROK areas while building tactical roads and fences and laying landmines around the MDL.

Kim said the ROK military continued its response to the DPRK troops' encroachment through warning broadcasts and warning shots.
