1 killed, 16 injured after bus collides with freight train in Russia

MOSCOW - One person was killed and another 16 injured after a collision between a bus and a freight train in Russia's Leningrad region, regional authorities said Monday.

Seven of the injured people are in serious condition, and the wounded are being transported to local hospitals, the regional health committee said.

The collision took place at 6:11 am local time (0311 GMT) as a tourist bus drove onto a railway crossing in front of an approaching train, Oktyabrskaya Railway said on Telegram.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
