The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government on Wednesday strongly condemned some Western countries, anti-China organizations, and anti-China politicians for making slanders and smears on the case of Joshua Wong involving the Hong Kong National Security Law and the SAR's work on safeguarding national security.
As the legal proceedings of the case involving Wong are still ongoing, it is inappropriate for any person to comment on the details of the case, said a government spokesperson.
The HKSAR government strongly urged these Western countries, anti-China organizations, and politicians to immediately cease interfering in its internal affairs and the independent judicial power of its courts.

Any attempt by any country, organization, or individual to interfere with the judicial proceedings in the HKSAR by means of political power, thereby resulting in a defendant not being able to have a fair trial that one should receive, is a reprehensible act undermining the rule of law of the HKSAR and should be condemned, said the spokesperson.
The HKSAR government will, as always, resolutely, fully, and faithfully implement the national security law in Hong Kong, the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, and other relevant laws safeguarding national security in the HKSAR, to effectively prevent, suppress and impose punishment for acts and activities endangering national security in accordance with the law, added the spokesperson.

Meanwhile, the HKSAR government will uphold the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong people in accordance with the law, so as to ensure the steadfast and successful implementation of the principle of "one country, two systems", the spokesperson said.
The Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR also expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the US State Department spokesperson openly supporting anti-China disruptor Joshua Wong while maliciously smearing the Hong Kong police's legitimate law enforcement actions.
Hong Kong is a society governed by the rule of law, where laws must be followed, and violations must be prosecuted, said a spokesperson for the office, adding that regarding anti-China disruptors, the Hong Kong police handle cases in accordance with the law, and judicial authorities deliver fair and lawful rulings.

The office urged the US side to immediately cease its futile efforts to shield and glorify lawbreakers and to stop its political manipulation of using Hong Kong to contain China.
