As Hong Kong prepares to celebrate the 28th anniversary of its return to the motherland on July 1, public spaces have been spruced up and museums are rolling out special offers to welcome visitors. Here’s your guide to the best places to visit on this festive holiday.
Hong Kong Palace Museum
Admission to all thematic exhibitions (Galleries 1 to 7) at the Hong Kong Palace Museum is free, but visitors must pre-book their tickets online. Tickets for two special exhibitions — Treasures of the Mughal Court from the Victoria and Albert Museum (Gallery 8) and Wonders of Imperial Carpets: Masterpieces from the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha (Gallery 9) — are also available for online booking.
M+ Museum
Entry to Hong Kong’s premier contemporary visual art museum is free, except for special exhibitions such as Canton Modern: Art and Visual Culture, 1900s–1970s and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Picasso for Asia—A Conversation. No pre-booking is required for free tickets.
Hong Kong Science Museum
On July 1, all exhibitions at the Hong Kong Science Museum will be free, with the exception of the special exhibition Innovative Pathway: Hong Kong's New Era of Industry.
Hong Kong Space Museum
Admission to all exhibitions at the Hong Kong Space Museum is free on July 1, except for the Space Theatre shows.
Ocean Park Hong Kong
The theme park is offering family and friend packages until July 3. Visitors can enjoy a 20 percent discount on the purchase of two adult admission tickets, and a 30 percent discount when purchasing three or four adult tickets.
Victoria Park
From June 29 to July 1, Victoria Park will be adorned with special decorations themed around technology, culture, and pandas. Guests can take photos, soak in the festive atmosphere, and interact with a robot and a robot dog on display. Admission is free.
Hong Kong Wetland Park
