A colorful dragon and lion dance parade was held in Hong Kong's Lamma Island on Sunday as part of the celebrations for the Tin Hau Festival, which marks the birthday of Tin Hau -- the goddess of sea in Chinese folk religion.

Local groups performed traditional dances and rituals, carrying on an intangible cultural heritage. Members of Malaysia's Sungei Besi Chinese Hua Ti Dragon and Lion Dance Association and the Xuan Long Dragon and Lion Dance Association also joined the parade.

The Tin Hau Festival, which falls on the 23rd day of the third lunar month every year, has been celebrated for days in various districts across the special administrative region.

Cantonese operas, spread over five days, are due to be held from May 13 to 17 by the side of Tin Hau Temple on Lamma Island.
