Joseph Lee Hun-wei, MUST’s president and vice-chancellor, said the event aims to spark insights on enhancing Macao’s diverse communication ties with the international community in a digital context.

Lee said the rapid development of digital technology has changed people’s living habits, and influenced Macao’s social and cultural development.

Shen Guolin, director of the office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan affairs of Fudan University, said Fudan and MUST have been cooperating on communication studies for over 10 years. The two universities have collaborated on scholar exchanges, graduate trainings and joint research projects, Shen said.

During the event, a research report on the digital lifestyles of residents in Macao and Shanghai was released.

The report, initiated by MUST’s Macao Media Research Center and Fudan’s Center for Information and Communication Studies, analyzed the digital consumption, digital communication and digital health habits of residents in the two cities, presenting the similarities and differences between people of the two cities in their sense of digital well-being.

The research team plans to carry out the research in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and other major cities in China and compare the results with those of global cities such as Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore and London.

Ji Jiannan, deputy head of Jiangsu Broadcasting Corp, said the corporation has teamed up with MUST to produce many multimedia programs and to promote international communication toward Portuguese-speaking countries and regions.

Zhang Zhiqing, MUST’s dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, told China Daily that GBA cities should work together to effectively convey positive stories about the nation and foster mutual understanding among young people.
