The Hong Kong team on Wednesday won three silvers and three bronzes at the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, with a first-ever silver medal in women’s team epee and three medals in sailing.
As of Wednesday, Hong Kong was in sixth place in the medal count with 27 medals — five golds, eight silvers and 14 bronzes.
Hong Kong’s female epee team, led by individual medalist Vivian Kong Man-wai, entered the Asian Games’ team epee finals for the first time and took home silver after being defeated by the South Korean fencers by a 34-36 score.
The men’s foil team was also stopped by their South Korean rivals in a semifinal, winning the city a bronze medal.
A series of victories also came from the sailing team, whose members bagged a silver and a bronze in iQFoil — a new windsurfing class that will also be an official discipline in the 2024 Paris Olympics — and a silver in the ILCA6 sailing dinghy races
So far, the Hong Kong fencing team has pocketed one gold, one silver and five bronze medals in the Hangzhou Games.

A series of victories also came from the sailing team, whose members bagged a silver and a bronze in iQFoil — a new windsurfing class that will also be an official discipline in the 2024 Paris Olympics — and a silver in the ILCA6 sailing dinghy races.
Because of the lack of wind, Wednesday’s men and women iQFoil competitions were canceled, and players were awarded based on their accumulative results of the first 18 races.
A silver medal for the women’s iQFoil came to the pocket of Hong Kong’s Ma Kwan-ching, along with a qualification ticket to the Paris Olympics. Cheng Ching-yin nabbed a bronze medal in the men’s iQFoil.
After the ILCA6 competition was canceled on Wednesday and the players ranked by their results accumulated in the previous 11 races, Hong Kong sailor Stephanie Louise Norton bagged a silver medal.
Women swimmers Stephanie Au Hoi-shun and Natalie Kan Cheuk-tung ranked fourth and sixth in the finals of the 100-meter backstroke and butterfly disciplines respectively.
