Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu is due to attend various activities in Guangzhou and Shenzhen this week to promote integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Speaking before a weekly Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, he said he’ll be at the launching ceremony of “Guangdong-Hong Kong Co-operation Week” on Wednesday. On Friday, he’ll attend an event in Shenzhen to showcase products designed, manufactured, and operated by Hong Kong companies that will help Hong Kong businesses tap the Chinese mainland market.

Lee said he and other key officials of the special administrative region would make frequent same-day return trips to the mainland and would not make acting appointments during their absence. The “one-hour living cycle” within the Greater Bay Area has helped to strengthen efficiency and facilitate Hong Kong’s integration into the overall development of the country and the region.

Lee said Hong Kong will strive to promote its advantages, economy, development and competitiveness on the mainland and the world in the post- pandemic era.

Asked whether he will visit other countries and regions in Asia in July, Lee said he has been traveling to various countries and regions to tell the Hong Kong story and has received positive feedback since the SAR’s full resumption of travel with the Chinese mainland.

He said officials will take advantage of these opportunities to benefit Hong Kong and showcase the city's strengths and achievements.

Hong Kong officials will be visiting countries in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, among others, to highlight the SAR’s advantages, attract investment, and seek opportunities for cooperation with other economies, Lee said.
