HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Saturday strongly disapproved and firmly rejected the smearing against the situation in the SAR by the spokesman for the US Consulate General in Hong Kong.

In a statement, an HKSAR government spokesman said that, since the return of Hong Kong to the motherland, the HKSAR government has been fully, faithfully and resolutely implementing the principles of 'one country, two systems', 'Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong' and a high degree of autonomy in accordance with the Constitution and the Basic Law.

An HKSAR govt spokesman said Hong Kong has entered a new stage of advancing from stability to prosperity following the transition from chaos to order

“The HKSAR government firmly rejects any false accusation, vilification or smearing in respect of the HKSAR affairs by the US government and its Consulate General in Hong Kong,” the spokesman was quoted as saying in the statement.

“The US' insistence on scaremongering, in the belief that repeating prejudice-driven self-created misrepresentation numerous times will turn it into a truth, simply reflects its lack of integrity as well as its ill intent," he added.

The spokesman said Hong Kong has entered a new stage of advancing from stability to prosperity following the transition from chaos to order.

“Under 'one country, two systems', Hong Kong commands irreplaceable standing with the distinctive advantages of enjoying the strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world. There lies a plethora of opportunities ahead,” he said.

“Any attempt by foreign countries or external forces to undermine the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong by slandering the situation in the HKSAR will only expose their own weakness and faulty arguments and be doomed to fail,” the spokesman added.

He said the HKSAR government will continue to discharge its duty to steadfastly ensure the successful implementation of the principles of 'one country, two systems', 'Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong' and a high degree of autonomy to better serve Hong Kong residents and foster the city's development.
