Task force led by finance chief to promote HK has 1st meeting

Hong Kong – A task force on promoting Hong Kong to the mainland and overseas countries held its first meeting on Tuesday, according to a government statement.

Led by Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, the Task Force on Promoting and Branding Hong Kong was set up last week to advise the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government on the strategy of promoting Hong Kong's advantages to the mainland and overseas.

The task force comprised prominent individuals of diverse backgrounds, representatives of Hong Kong Inc partner organizations as well as government officials.

The commencement of the work of the task force (Task Force on Promoting and Branding Hong Kong) signifies the initiation of efforts by the government and the whole Hong Kong team to proactively demonstrate to the world our real strengths and advantages.

During the first meeting, members of the task force deliberated on ways to step up the promotion of new potentials and opportunities in the city under the new development stage, according to the statement.

“Hong Kong is advancing from stability to becoming more prosperous, and steadily returning to normalcy.  The commencement of the work of the task force signifies the initiation of efforts by the government and the whole Hong Kong team to proactively demonstrate to the world our real strengths and advantages,” the financial secretary said.

The members also discussed the overall publicity strategy and plans, including the local, the mainland and overseas promotional plans of Hong Kong Inc partner organizations, mega events to be held in the year as well as media marketing plans, the statement showed.

Chan expressed his gratitude to all task force members, especially the non-official members who are all heavyweights in their respective sectors, for contributing their invaluable insights and advice at the meeting.

“With joint efforts, our promotional work in overseas countries and regions as well as in the mainland would certainly be more targeted, impactful, and effective in achieving its objectives, thus further enhancing the branding and image of Hong Kong,” Chan said.
