TEHRAN - The Iranian military on Thursday warned the European Parliament of the "consequences" of its designation of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a "terrorist group."

The European Parliament took the move under the influence of the hostile policies of the United States and Israel following their failures to compromise Iran's security through "inciting riots," the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said in a statement.

The Iranian armed forces, particularly the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), will never back down from their efforts to protect Iran's security and national interests, and from the constant fight against the "terrorists" led by the US, Israel and Britain, the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said

To blacklist the IRGC as a terror organization proves the double-standard and anti-security nature of the European Parliament's standards, and is in contradiction with all international rules and regulations, according to the statement.

In response, the Iranian armed forces, particularly the IRGC, will never back down from their efforts to protect Iran's security and national interests, and from the constant fight against the "terrorists" led by the US, Israel and Britain, it added.

Also on Thursday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi denounced the European Parliament's move as a contravention of international law and the UN Charter, the Iranian president's office said in a statement.

Raisi told a cabinet meeting that the move was taken out of "desperation" and followed unsuccessful bids by the West to deal blows to Iranian people by inciting "riots" in the country,

The European Parliament on Thursday approved a resolution calling on the European Union to designate the IRGC as a "terrorist group."
