HONG KONG – Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu returned a negative result for COVID-19 tests on Saturday, the sixth day since testing positive for coronavirus infection upon his arrival in Hong Kong from a trade summit in the Thai capital, Bangkok. 

“My rapid test today showed ‘one line’,” he wrote in social media posts.

Assuring people about his health, Lee said: “At present, except for the occasional cough, my body is not having any particular issues.”

I would like to call on everyone to get the vaccines as soon as possible to protect yourself from infection and reduce the risk of serious symptoms.

The CE said he has received sympathy in the past few days from people of all walks of life including from various government representatives and thanked them for their concerns and blessings.

Lee tested positive for the virus through a polymerase chain reaction-based nucleic acid test upon arrival at the Hong Kong International Airport on Sunday night after attending the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders' Meeting in Bangkok.

Other officials of the Chief Executive's Office who accompanied Lee on the visit and returned to Hong Kong the same day all tested negative through a PCR test done upon arrival at the airport.

In accordance with the guidelines of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health, the CE underwent isolation and has since been working from home. Tuesday's weekly Executive Council meeting was suspended.

In his social media posts, urged residents to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect themselves from infection and reduce the risk of serious symptoms.
