HONG KONG - Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has tested positive for COVID-19, a spokesman for the Chief Executive's Office said on Monday.

Lee conducted a polymerase chain reaction-based nucleic acid test upon arrival at the Hong Kong International Airport on Sunday night after he attended the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) in Bangkok, Thailand, the spokesman said.
He is undergoing isolation in accordance with the guidelines of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health (CHP), said the spokesman, adding that the results of his RAT tests conducted during his four-day visit had been negative.

During isolation, he will work from home and attend meetings by videoconferencing as needed, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the officials of the office who accompanied Lee on the visit and returned to Hong Kong on Sunday were all tested negative through a PCR test done upon arrival at the airport, the spokesman added.

CHP is assessing whether they should be classified as close contacts, and they will temporarily work from home until the assessment is completed.
