HONG KONG - Australia ended Fiji's dominance at the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens on Sunday, winning the final 20-17 for its first title in the tournament since 1988.

The three-day tournament saw 16 teams divided into four groups to compete in a single round-robin format.

The 19-time champion Fiji had won the recent five editions at the Hong Kong Stadium. The Pacific Islanders kept a fearsome form this year, advancing to the final without a defeat and setting up a clash against Australia, who finished second in Group A and reached the final by eliminating Ireland and France.

Fiji started strong in the final and established a 12-5 lead before the interval, but the Aussies narrowed the gap to 10-12 straight after the break. Although Waisea Nacuqu extended Fiji's lead in the 10th minute, Henry Hutchison and Nathan Lawson helped Australia turn the game around.

Elsewhere, France saw off Samoa 19-17 to win the bronze medal.
