Sri Lanka to donate COVID-19 vaccines to Myanmar

SINGAPORE / MANILA / YANGON / HANOI / SEOUL / NEW DELHI / KUALA LUMPUR / COLOMBO / ISLAMABAD – The Sri Lankan government is to donate COVID-19 vaccines worth $40 million to Myanmar, Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella told journalists here on Friday.
He said that Sri Lanka has an excess of 9 million doses of Pfizer vaccine and the country plans to give 6 million to Myanmar.
The minister said that the vaccines are to expire by the end of the year.

India

India's daily COVID-19 caseload Friday decreased to 2,678, officials said.

According to federal health ministry data released on Friday morning, 2,678 new cases of COVID-19 were reported during the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,623,997 in the country.

The country also logged 10 COVID-19-related deaths during the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 528,857 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.

Malaysia

Malaysia reported 2,090 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Thursday, bringing the national total to 4,861,226, according to the Health Ministry.

There are four new imported cases, with 2,086 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

Three new deaths have been reported, leaving the death toll at 36,410.

Myanmar

Myanmar confirmed 310 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 627,638, according to the Ministry of Health on Thursday.

The death toll from COVID-19 in the country reached 19,469 on Thursday after one new death was reported in the past 24 hours, the ministry said.

Pakistan

Pakistan reported 62 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the country's ministry of health said on Friday.

A total of 30,620 people have died of COVID-19 in the country, with no new death reported in the country during the last 24 hours, according to the ministry.

Republic of Korea

The Republic of Korea reported 23,583 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Thursday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 25,076,239, the health authorities said Friday.
Among the new cases, 60 were imported from overseas, lifting the total to 68,653.
Thirty-five more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 28,783. The total fatality rate was 0.11 percent.

Singapore

Singapore reported 9,501 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total tally to 1,988,760.
Of the new cases, 790 were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 8,711 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the country's Ministry of Health.
Among the PCR cases, 782 were local transmissions and eight were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 8,467 local transmissions and 244 imported cases.
Three new deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Thursday, bringing the total death toll to 1,639.

The Philippines

The Philippines reported 2,883 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 3,975,884.

The Department of Health said the number of active cases rose to 25,293, while 40 more patients died from COVID-19 complications, taking the death toll to 63,403.

Vietnam

Vietnam recorded 1,070 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, down by 126 from Wednesday, according to its ministry of health.

Among the new cases, one was imported and the rest were all locally transmitted, said the ministry.

The newly reported infections brought the country's total tally to 11,490,951. Vietnam reported no new deaths from the pandemic on Thursday, with the total fatalities staying at 43,155.
