YANGON - Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi and her Australian economic adviser Sean Turnell have been sentenced to three years each for breaching the country's official secrets act by a court on Thursday, a source familiar with the cases said.

Aung San Suu Kyi has been on trial on multiple charges including electoral fraud, corruption, incitement, breaching the Natural Disaster Management Law, breaching the Export and Import Law and breaching the Communications Law.

She now faces 23 years in jail.

On Feb 1 last year, Suu Kyi and some senior officials of Myanmar's National League for Democracy were detained by the military.
