Vietnam reports 2,545 new COVID-19 cases

HANOI / KUALA LUMPUR / NEW DELHI / SINGAPORE - Vietnam recorded 2,545 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, up 617 from Thursday, according to the Ministry of Health.

All the new cases were locally transmitted, said the ministry.

As of Friday, there were 154 severe cases in need of assisted breathing in the Southeast Asian country, according to the ministry.

Approximately 259.8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, including nearly 220.4 million shots on people aged 18 and above, said the ministry.

India

India's daily COVID-19 caseload Saturday fell to 4,912, officials said.

According to federal health ministry data released on Saturday morning, 4,912 new cases of COVID-19 were reported during the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,563,337 in the country.

With the reporting of fresh cases, India's active caseload currently stands at 44,436.

The country also logged 38 related deaths during the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 528,487 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.

With the increase in cases, the daily positivity rate stands at 1.62 percent and the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.69 percent, the ministry data showed.

The ministry said so far 43,990,414 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals, of whom 5,719 were discharged during the past 24 hours.

Malaysia

Malaysia reported 2,070 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Friday, bringing the national total to 4,828,290, according to the health ministry.

There are three new imported cases, with 2,067 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

Another three deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 36,345.

The ministry reported 2,009 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,766,228.

There are 25,717 active cases, with 54 being held in intensive care and 33 of those in need of assisted breathing.

Singapore

Singapore reported 2,343 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total tally to 1,887,202.

Of the new cases, 238 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 2,105 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 217 were local transmissions and 21 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 1,957 local transmissions and 148 imported cases, respectively.

A total of 194 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with seven cases in intensive care units.

No deaths were reported from COVID-19 on Friday, making the total death toll stay unchanged at 1,609, the ministry said.
