LONDON – Chelsea FC on Thursday confirmed Graham Potter as its new first team coach, 24 hours after the English Premier League giant sacked Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea said the 47-year-old coach Graham Potter has the ability to "a collaborative, forward-thinking approach while developing attacking and winning football."

Potter leaves Brighton to join Chelsea on a five-year-deal, with the south-London club paying Brighton a reported 20 million pounds in compensation.

"Potter is one of the most exciting coaches in games, starting his journey in Sweden before bringing his talents to the English game over the past four seasons," the Chelsea website said of the coach, who had also directed Swansea City and the Swedish side, Ostersund.

Chelsea said the 47-year-old coach has the ability to "a collaborative, forward-thinking approach while developing attacking and winning football."

Tuchel was sacked after a season and a half in charge and the German had replaced Frank Lampard, who also lasted around just 18 months in the job.

Last season, Potter led Brighton to ninth place in the Premier League, the club's highest-ever finish and since 2019.

Potter has been known for using an attractive passing game, only handicapped by his former club's lack of firepower in attack.
