Tianjin downs Hebei in Chinese Super League

HAIKOU, China - Xie Weijun scored a brace to help Tianjin Jinmen Tigers defeat Hebei FC 4-3 in the 12th round of the Chinese Super League on Thursday.

The see-saw competition got even tenser in the second half. In the 49th minute, Slovenian striker Robert Beric assisted Xie to double-fire Hebei. Only four minutes later, Spanish forward Fran Merida extended the lead for Tianjin to 3-1 with a powerful volley

Tianjin dominated the possession from the very beginning, with four attempts before Xie got on the score sheet in the 20th minute.

Nine minutes later, Zhang Wei of Hebei pulled one goal back with a header, which marked the sixth goal of himself as well as that of the team in the current season.

The deficit was quickly cut as Yao Xuchen shot to the corner in the penalty area three minutes later, and his teammate Zhao Ziye tied the score at 3-3 with a header in the 80th minute.

However, one minute later, Ba Dun tapped on the ball that fell from the hand of Hebei keeper Bao Yaxiong and sealed the game 4-3 for Tianjin.

"It's a hard-fought victory. Though we controlled the game well and took the lead, our impetuousness and defence mistakes made the game harder than it should be," said Yu Genwei, head coach of Tianjin.
