Hong Kong enjoys considerable natural advantages in fintech and other technology sectors, including its large pool of educated and professional talent and its highly transparent regulatory and legal system.

In addition, Hong Kong has long been the preferred choice for technology and innovation companies worldwide to develop in China. Hong Kong’s access to the market in the Chinese mainland will be further expanded under the Outline Development Plan for the GBA, and the Belt and Road Initiative will enhance Hong Kong’s global status, which will strengthen Hong Kong’s attractiveness as an international technology hub.

Hong Kong’s most important advantages are its international status and the East-meets-West social environment compared with the Chinese mainland.  In addition to establishing an international talents exchange center and providing a platform for international exchange and cooperation between scientists from the Chinese mainland and other parts of the world, Hong Kong should also assist the country in establishing a platform for global collaboration between industry-university on research and development.
