Chinese shares close higher Tuesday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.65 percent, at 3,093.7 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.23 percent higher at 11,230.16 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 789.9 billion yuan ($116.4 billion), up from 783.6 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Shares related to auto manufacturing and lithium extraction from salt-lake brines led the gains, while agricultural stocks and real estate companies suffered some of the biggest losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.62 percent to close at 2,369.09 points.
