HONG KONG – The Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has firmly rejected the so-called Hong Kong-related resolution of the European Parliament.

In a statement issued on Friday, a spokesperson for the office said the parliament’s “resolution” smeared Hong Kong’s democracy and called for sanctions against central government and HKSAR officials and boycott of Beijing Winter Olympics.

There was no democracy in Hong Kong under British colonial rule, and the Chinese government is the designer, builder, promoter and defender of the city’s democracy, said a spokesperson for the Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR

“Their self-deceiving political farce and ill intentions were doomed to fail,” the spokesperson said.

When the SAR was in chaos years ago, the central government acted decisively in adopting the National Security Law for the city, improving its electoral system, and implementing the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong”, said the spokesperson.

“These measures made Hong Kong transform from chaos to stability and prosperity, and brought its democratic development back on track. Hong Kong has since taken on a new look of sound and effective governance.”

“In disregard of history and reality, the European Parliament has repeatedly smeared Hong Kong and attacked China under the pretext of so-called ‘democracy and freedom’ for a publicity stunt. It shows their unreasonable, ignorant and shameless nature.”

The European Parliament harbored no good intentions and tried to whitewash anti-China elements in Hong Kong. They were still daydreaming of using the city as a bridgehead against China, said the spokesperson.

Europe was following some others in exporting so-called “democracy” and has descended to an accomplice in creating regional chaos, the spokesperson said, adding: “The European Parliament once again judged others’ democracy with condensation and interfered in Hong Kong affairs and China’s internal affairs, which is unacceptable.”

Some politicians have repeatedly resorted to political bullying of sanctions and boycott of Olympics, precisely exposing their arrogance and will find themselves on a collision course with a great wall of steel forged by Chinese people, the spokesperson said.

“Hong Kong is part of China and brooks no external interference. Nothing can change China’s firm determination to safeguard the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and promote the sustained success of ‘one country, two systems’.”

The spokesperson urged some politicians of the European Parliament to follow the historical trend, change course and stop threatening to impose sanctions and interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China’s internal affairs in any form.
