HONG KONG - The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Thursday condemned a report released by a United States agency that made unfounded allegations ranging from National Security Law to the city's business environment.

In a statement issued on Thursday morning, a spokesperson for the office said the report issued by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission is "a pack of lies and far-fetched analogies” and interferes with China’s internal affairs.

The US report blames China for its just actions of safeguarding national security in Hong Kong and implementing the principle of 'patriots administering Hong Kong', and exerts pressure on the HKSAR government’s law enforcement activities.

"The US report blames China for its just actions of safeguarding national security in Hong Kong and implementing the principle of 'patriots administering Hong Kong', and exerts pressure on the HKSAR government’s law enforcement activities," the spokesperson was quoted as saying in the statement.

"The National Security Law and the improved electoral system have plugged the legal loopholes in Hong Kong for safeguarding national security, removed obstacles to Hong Kong's development, and protected the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of Hong Kong residents and people of all countries in the city."

The spokesperson said that, with the NSL, the city was able to restore public order, uphold the rule of law, and return to the right track of development, with all foreign investors, including US enterprises in the financial hub, enjoying a more stable business environment.

The spokesperson pointed out that the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China demonstrated the central government’s support for the city.

The spokesperson for the commissioner's office said the “wrong words and deeds” of the US Congress cannot shake China's firm determination to safeguard its national sovereignty and security and development interests

"We firmly believe that under the 14th Five-Year Plan and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area initiative, and with the mainstream public opinion of keeping stability and seeking development, Hong Kong will score new achievements and open a new chapter of 'one country, two systems' by making good use of policy dividends and seizing development opportunities during its integration into the overall national development," the spokesperson said.

Despite being overwhelmed by its own economic and social problems, the US is “obsessed with pointing fingers” at China's internal affairs, the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson said the “wrong words and deeds” of the US Congress cannot shake China's firm determination to safeguard its national sovereignty and security and development interests.

"Those who pressure, smear and write off Hong Kong will only find things go contrary to their wishes," the spokesperson added.
