Commissioner's office urges US to stop interfering in HK affairs
By Wang Zhan

HONG KONG - The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the HKSAR condemned on Thursday a US immigration notice which aims to play up risks of the National Security Law, create panic, and provoke social tension.

In a statement issued on Thursday night, a spokesperson for the office said the so-called "Implementation of Employment Authorization for Individuals Covered by Deferred Enforced Departure for Hong Kong" issued by the US government on Oct 21 interferes in Hong Kong affairs, China's internal affairs, and tramples on international law and basic norms of international relations.

A spokesperson for the office said all fair-minded people would agree that Hong Kong has become secure and stable after measures taken by the central government brought the financial hub back to normal, restored business vitality, while protecting human rights and freedoms

“We urge the US side to recognize reality, cease and desist, refrain from interfering in Hong Kong's affairs, and cast aside the political myth of disrupting Hong Kong and exploiting Hong Kong to contain China,” the statement reads.

The spokesperson said all fair-minded people would agree that Hong Kong has become secure and stable after measures taken by the central government brought the financial hub back to normal, restored business vitality, while protecting human rights and freedoms.

“Yet the US, ignoring the facts and mainstream public opinion in Hong Kong, is bent on providing a so-called ‘safe haven’ for anti-China, destabilizing forces fleeing overseas by using democracy and human rights as a cover, which further exposes its hypocrisy, the ill intention to collude with disruptive elements in Hong Kong, and the wicked scheme of playing the ‘Hong Kong card’ to stunt China's growth,” the statement reads.

“Why bother sending others an umbrella to keep away from rain on a sunny day?” it added.

The spokesperson pointed out that the US has a tarnished human rights record, with systemic racism, worsened proliferation of guns, repeated hate crimes, and ingrained social security problems adding to the problem of its botched COVID-19 response that has left more than 700,000 people dead.

“The US has already been overwhelmed by its own human rights and social problems..how could it (possibly) provide a ‘safe haven’ for others?” the statement reads.

The spokesperson stressed that Hong Kong is part of China and Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs.

“No one can stop the historical trend of Hong Kong shifting from chaos to stability and prosperity; no one can derail Hong Kong from the right track; and no one can prevent China from achieving the great national rejuvenation,” the statement reads.
