BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Saturday that the complete reunification of China will be and can be realized.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks while addressing a meeting marking the 110th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911.

The president said that the Taiwan question, which is purely an internal matter for China, arose out of the weakness and chaos of the Chinese nation, and it will be resolved as national rejuvenation becomes a reality.

"This is determined by the general trend of Chinese history, but more importantly, it is the common will of all Chinese people," said Xi.

The Taiwan question is purely an internal matter for China, one which brooks no external interference, president Xi said

The Taiwan question brooks no external interference, Xi added.

The president said national reunification by peaceful means best serves the interests of the Chinese nation as a whole, including compatriots in Taiwan.

"Compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait should stand on the right side of history and join hands to achieve China's complete reunification and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation."

"Those who forget their heritage, betray their motherland, and seek to split the country will come to no good end," Xi said, adding that they will be disdained by the people and condemned by history.

He said the Communist Party of China is the strong force to lead the Chinese people in realizing national rejuvenation, and emphasized the need to overcome all major risks and challenges that may impede China's path to realizing it.

Without the Communist Party of China, there would be no new China and no national rejuvenation.

"To realize national rejuvenation, the Chinese people must rely on our own heroic efforts," Xi said.

The Revolution of 1911, also known as the Xinhai Revolution, ended more than 2,000 years of imperial rule in China and spread the ideas of democracy and equality among the Chinese people.

In his remarks, Xi said the Revolution of 1911 had paved the way for the profound social changes that have taken place in modern China.

China will work to strengthen solidarity with the peoples of all other countries and engage in common efforts to oppose hegemony and power politics, Xi added.
