TEHRAN/MOSCOW - A senior Iranian lawmaker on Wednesday announced that the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the parties to the 2015 nuclear deal will resume soon, Tasnim news agency reported.

Mahmoud Abbaszadeh Meshkini, spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian parliament, said that "negotiations will begin soon and in the coming days."

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said that he had received signals from the US administration that the White House intends to return to the nuclear deal and take into account the rights and interests of the Iranian people

Based on the nature of talks, the Iranian negotiating team will be formed, Abbaszadeh Meshkini said, adding that the strategic lines of the country are usually drawn in the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for the realization of goals and strategies.

Abbaszadeh Meshkini's announcement came on the same day Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow and Tehran have agreed that negotiations on the Iran nuclear deal in the Vienna format should resume as soon as possible.

Lavrov made the remarks during a joint press conference with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian following their talks in Moscow.

Amir Abdollahian said that he had received signals from the US administration that the White House intends to return to the nuclear deal and take into account the rights and interests of the Iranian people.

Russia opposes attempts of some countries to link the preservation of the Iran nuclear deal with Tehran's concessions on other issues, Lavrov said.

Also on Wednesday, Lavrov and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held a phone conversation to discuss the nuclear deal and bilateral affairs.

The two countries' top diplomats exchanged views on the prospects for restoring full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) during the phone call, which was initiated by the US side, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

After six rounds of talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna between the Islamic republic and remaining parties to the deal with the United States indirectly involved, the officials in Tehran announced in June that they would decide on the continuation of talks after establishment of new Iranian administration.

The nuclear talks that began in April sought to bring Washington back into the deal and persuade Iran to assume compliance with some of its commitments dropped after former US President Donald Trump unilaterally abandoned the accord in 2018 and reimposed sanctions on Iran.
