Mainland sees 6 new local COVID-19 cases, all in Jiangsu

BEIJING/ZHENGZHOU - The Chinese mainland Tuesday reported six new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in Jiangsu province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report Wednesday.

The mainland also saw 22 new imported cases, including eight in Yunnan, five in Shanghai, three in Tianjin, two each in Beijing and Fujian, and one each in Hubei and Guangdong.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 94,500 by Tuesday, including 87,977 recoveries. The death toll remained unchanged at 4,636

One suspected case arriving from outside the mainland was reported in Shanghai, the commission said, adding that there were no additional deaths related to COVID-19.

There were 1,887 patients still receiving treatment, 62 of whom were in severe condition, the commission said.

By the end of Tuesday, a total of 7,970 imported cases had been reported on the mainland with no deaths.

Overall, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 94,500 by Tuesday, including 87,977 recoveries. The death toll remained unchanged at 4,636.

Meanwhile, 17 new asymptomatic cases were also reported Tuesday. There were a total of 500 asymptomatic cases under medical observation, 400 of which were imported.

Zhengzhou downgrades risk level in six areas

On Wednesday, Zhengzhou, the capital city of central China's Henan province, lowered the number of areas classified as medium-risk for COVID-19 transmission.

Starting from 12 pm Wednesday, the COVID-19 risk level of six residential communities was downgraded from medium to low. Authorities have also decided to lift closed management in three communities, the city's epidemic prevention and control headquarters said.

On Tuesday, the city reported no new locally transmitted confirmed cases and asymptomatic cases.

Zhengzhou has completed the fourth round of all-inclusive nucleic acid testing, with over 12 million people tested.  

By the end of Tuesday, 12,039 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 212 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 63 cases in the Macao SAR, and 15,880 cases, including 821 deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 11,753 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, 59 in the Macao SAR, and 13,195 in Taiwan.  

More than 1.88 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered across the mainland as of Tuesday, the commission said.
