BEIJING/KUNMING - One residential community in Ruili city, southwest China's Yunnan province, has been classified as a COVID-19 medium-risk area following the recent resurgence in infections, according to local authorities.
The community, with a population of around 12,000, is located on China's border with Myanmar and currently the only medium-risk area in Ruili and Yunnan. The classification took effect at 12 pm on Tuesday, the municipal COVID-19 prevention and control headquarters said.

The fresh cases involved Myanmar nationals, and were found during an all-inclusive nucleic acid testing in Ruili, the commission said.
An epidemiological investigation is underway, and nucleic acid testing has been carried out in several key districts in Ruili since Monday morning.

By 8 am on Tuesday, over 238,000 samples were collected and more than 760 close and secondary contacts of coronavirus carriers were put under medical observation, municipal authorities said.
Mainland reports 11 new cases
The Chinese mainland on Monday reported three new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in Yunnan and eight imported cases, the National Health Commission (NHC) said in its daily report on Tuesday.
Of the fresh imported cases, eight were posted in Yunnan, four in Shanghai, three each in Guangdong and Chongqing, and one each in Liaoning and Fujian, according to the NHC.
No new suspected cases or deaths related to COVID-19 were reported Monday, said the NHC.

There were 418 patients still receiving treatment, five of whom were in severe condition, it said.
By the end of Monday, the mainland had reported 91,892 confirmed cases, 86,838 recoveries and 4,636 deaths. A total of 6,694 imported cases had been reported with no fatalities.

There was one suspected COVID-19 case on the mainland on Monday.
On the same day, 25 fresh asymptomatic cases were reported on the mainland.
By the end of Monday, 11,943 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 212 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 55 cases in the Macao SAR, and 15,061 cases, including 689 deaths, in Taiwan.
A total of 11,638 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, 51 in the Macao SAR, and 11,008 in Taiwan.
More than 1.31 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered across the mainland as of Monday, the commission said.
