Guests praised the photo exhibition that pays tribute to China’s success stories in fighting the coronavirus.
Hailing the exhibition as a “meaningful event”, Lam Kwong-siu, vice-chairman of Bank of China International Holdings and the director of the Cross-Strait Peaceful Development Federation, said it provides “real motivation and encouragement” to people from all walks of life.
“Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China has mobilized the whole country to support the coronavirus-hit Wuhan city, cleaving to the principle of never giving up on any patient no matter what”, Lam told China Daily on the sidelines of the exhibition.
“Such a strategy proves to be quite successful. It speaks volumes about our nation’s dogged determination to always put people’s safety and health as the top priority”, Lam said.“The exhibition offers a glimpse of a good many heroic and moving deeds on the front line of the epic anti-pandemic fight that essentially set an example for others to follow. It’s a rewarding attempt to let more people know about our own stories.”

Ma Fung-kwok, Hong Kong deputy to the National People’s Congress and deputy chairman of the Legislative Council House Committee, said the nation’s performance during the pandemic shows its ability to cope with a severe health crisis.
“Strictly speaking, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan this time have done pretty well in the anti-pandemic fight, compared with Western counterparts”, Ma told China Daily. “It helps break the stereotype that the Chinese community had done little work in the field of public health. I think this really matters.
“Such success mainly results from the fact that the most valuable experience and good lessons learned from the SARS epidemic back in 2003 have been inherited and carried forward in the ongoing battle against the coronavirus”, Ma said.
“In a similar vein, there is much work to be done in the days ahead to sum up the fresh new anti-pandemic experience and make good use of it in various areas worldwide via the World Health Organization or in other ways. We have what it takes to play a bigger role in sharing the experience beyond national borders and making our due contribution to global efforts against the unprecedented public-health crisis”, he said.
