HONG KONG - Hong Kong received its second shipment of about 300,000 doses of BioNTech’s vaccine as the city reported 13 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

According to a government statement, the second batch of BioNTech’s Comirnaty vaccine arrived from Germany on Tuesday morning as arranged by Fosun Pharma. The first shipment arrived on April 2.

After the arrival of the latest batch, government personnel stringently inspected the vaccines to ensure that they comply with product specifications and that they were transported according to relevant cold-chain requirements.

The government will put the vaccines in validated ultra-low temperature freezers to ensure that they are properly stored, it added.

Meanwhile, three of the 13 new cases on Tuesday were local infections linked to a single family cluster, where the first patient iss believed to be a 55-year-old housewife whose infection source was unknown, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection’s communicable disease branch, said at a briefing.

The three local infections belong to a single family cluster, where the first patient was believed to be a 55-year-old housewife whose infection source was unknown, said Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection’s communicable disease branch

The infected housewife, who developed a cough on April 4, visited Yeung Uk Road Market in Tsuen Wan during the incubation period, Chuang said.

She dined with family members and a friend on March 28 at Leisurely Veggie in Citywalk shopping mall in Tsuen Wan.

Her family member, a 34-year-old woman who worked at Prosperity Tower in Central, developed symptoms on Friday, according to Chuang.

The last local patient was a 38-year-old man who worked at Clifford Centre in Cheung Sha Wan and felt uncomfortable on April 5. All three are related to each other and once lived at Lido Garden Block 2 in Sham Tseng.

The imported cases on Tuesday involved four travelers from Pakistan, two each from Indonesia and the Philippines, and one each from India and Japan, Chuang said.

There were also less than five preliminarily positive cases, Chuang said, adding that they were all imported infections.
