HONG KONG – Hong Kong reported five new COVID-19 infections on Saturday, including two locally transmitted ones, as more residents of a Tuen Mun public housing block were placed under quarantine after more positive cases were detected there.

The two new local cases, both linked to previous infections, involved a 66-year-old man and a six-year-old boy who both lived in Oi Fai House, Yau Oi Estate in Tuen Mun. They were residents of unit 9 of Block 3 but lived on different floors, according to a release from the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health.

A 70-year-old woman who lived in unit 9 on a lower floor of the same block was previously confirmed infected.

Apart from the three cases, two other residents of the same building tested preliminarily positive to COVID-19. They were family members residing in unit 32.

In view of a confirmed case detected at a unit 31 previously and investigation revealed that units 9 and 10, and units 31 and 32 separately share a common soil pipe, the CHP has decided to issue quarantine orders to all asymptomatic residents of units 10, 31 and 32 on all floors of the block and transfer them to quarantine centers, according to the release. Residents who have already developed symptoms, meanwhile, will be sent to the hospital for treatment.

Separate quarantine orders for residents of unit 9 of the block have been issued on Friday evening.
