52.7% Israelis vaccinated against COVID-19

CAIRO / PHNOM PENH / KUWAIT CITY / NEW DELHI / BAGHDAD / ULAN BATOR / WELLINGTON / BEIRUT / RAMALLAH / SEOUL / BANGKOK / MANILA / ANKARA - The number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 in Israel has surpassed 4.9 million, or 52.7 percent of its total population. 

Israel's Ministry of Health reported 3,779 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, raising the tally in the country to 796,465.

The death toll from the COVID-19 in Israel reached 5,834 after 13 new fatalities were added, while the number of patients in serious condition decreased from 699 to 690, out of 1,091 hospitalized patients.

Cambodia

Cambodia on Saturday reported 21 more local COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infected people linked to the third community transmission to 446, said a Ministry of Health (MoH) statement.

The new cases were detected in capital Phnom Penh and southwestern Preah Sihanouk province, the statement said, adding that they were all related to the third community outbreak on Feb 20.

India

India's COVID-19 tally rose to 11,192,088 on Saturday as 18,327 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the health ministry.

According to the official data, the death toll mounted to 157,656 as 108 COVID-19 patients died since Friday morning.

There are still 180,304 active cases in the country, while 10,854,128 people have been discharged so far from hospitals after medical treatment. There was an increase of 3,985 active cases during the previous 24 hours, out of which 3,696 were reported from the southwestern state of Maharashtra alone.

Iraq

The Iraqi Ministry of Health reported on Friday 5,127 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total nationwide infections to 719,121.

It also reported 30 new deaths, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 13,537, while the total recoveries in Iraq climbed by 3,134 to 653,149.

Kuwait

Kuwait reported on Friday 1,613 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 198,110.

The Kuwaiti Health Ministry also announced eight more deaths, taking the death toll to 1,113. The tally of recoveries nationwide rose by 918 to 184,239, while 12,758 coronavirus-related patients were receiving treatment.

Kuwait's government decided on Thursday to impose a partial curfew, starting on March 7 from 5 p.m. local time (1400 GMT) to 5 a.m. until April 8, as part of its efforts to curb the COVID-19 spread.

Mongolia

Mongolia has reported eight new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking its total tally to 3,161, the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases said Saturday.

Three of the latest cases were imported from abroad, and the remaining five were locally transmitted or detected in the country's capital Ulan Bator, the center said in a statement.

Meanwhile, 39 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from hospitals in Ulan Bator, bringing the total recoveries to 2,481, the center added.

New Zealand

New Zealand reported nine new cases of COVID-19, said the Ministry of Health in a statement on Saturday.

The new cases of COVID-19 were recent returnees testing positive at their day 0 routine tests upon arrival. There was no new case of COVID-19 to report in the wider New Zealand community, according to the ministry.

The total number of active cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand was 71 and the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 reached 2,042, it said.

Lebanon

Lebanon registered on Friday 3,202 new COVID-19 cases, raising the number of infections to 390,053, the Health Ministry said.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths from the virus went up by 52 to 4,971.

Oman

The Omani health authorities announced on Friday that the second doses of COVID-19 vaccines will start to be administered from Sunday.

In Oman, the latest COVID-19 statistics showed that the total number of coronavirus cases has increased to 142,896, including 133,491 recoveries and 1,583 deaths.

Palestine

Palestinian Health Minister Mai al-Kaila said on Friday that Palestine has recorded a total of 218,628 COVID-19 cases including 2,333 deaths.

"Since the outbreak of the virus on March 5, 2020, the health ministry has conducted 1.215 million tests in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem," she said.

On March 5, 2020, the Palestinian Health Ministry announced that Palestine's first seven cases were detected in Bethlehem.

On Friday, Palestine recorded 1,826 new coronavirus cases, 19 more deaths and 1,270 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

South Korea

South Korea reported 418 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Friday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 92,055.

The daily caseload was up from 398 in the previous day, staying in the 300s and 400s since mid-February.

The daily number of infections hovered above 100 since Nov. 8, 2020, owing to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases.

Of the new cases, 126 were Seoul residents and 172 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.

Fourteen cases were imported from overseas, lifting the combined figure to 7,160.

Five more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 1,632. The total fatality rate stood at 1.77 percent.

Thailand

Thailand is planning a third round of cash handouts to low-income groups to boost private spending and support the nation’s economic recovery as the pandemic continues to hurt key sectors, the Bangkok Post reported.

The government is yet to decide on the amount to be disbursed and the number of beneficiaries to be covered, while it may use funds available from a 1 trillion baht (US$33 billion) stimulus program unveiled last year to tackle coronavirus, the paper said, citing finance official Krisada Chinavicharana.

Thailand on Saturday confirmed 64 new COVID-19 cases, mostly domestic, according to a report of the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Of Saturday's new cases, 54 were domestic infections while 10 others referred to imported cases, the CCSA report says.

Thailand has so far confirmed 26,305 cases, 23,472 of which were domestic cases while 2,833 others referred to imported cases.

The Philippines

The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported on Saturday 3,439 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 591,138.

The death toll rose to 12,465 after 42 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. It added that 160 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 535,350.

Turkey

Turkey on Friday reported 11,302 new COVID-19 infections, including 698 symptomatic patients, taking its caseload to 2,757,460, according to the country's health ministry.

The death toll rose by 62 to 28,901, while the tally of recoveries climbed to 2,608,848 after 7,711 more cases recovered in the last 24 hours.
