BERLIN - First-half goals from John Anthony Brooks and Wout Weghorst paved the way for Wolfsburg's 3-0 win over Freiburg in the closer of the 19th round in Bundesliga on Sunday.

Enjoying a flying start on the road, Freiburg needed only seven minutes to produce the first clear-cut chance but Nicolas Hofler pulled wide from a tight angle.

The visitors were shocked and the Wolves continued clinically as Weghorst made it two on 39 minutes, beating Freiburg goalkeeper Florian Muller with the outside of the foot from the edge of the box

Freiburg almost reduced the arrears in injury time of the first half, but Baptiste Santamaria's header missed the target.

After the restart, Santamaria rattled the woodwork with a header before wasting another promising chance in the 48th minute.

Freiburg tried to assume control but Weghorst remained a threat as the Dutchman hit the inside of the post before Muller defused another effort on target in the 64th minute.

The visitor's best chance came on 73 minutes when Hofler's sideways scissor-kick forced Wolfsburg custodian Koen Casteels to make a diving save.

Wolfsburg eventually killed the game with four minutes remaining as Yannick Gerhardt poked home Ridle Baku's square pass to round off the 3-0 win on home soil.

With the result, Wolfsburg jump into third place, meanwhile Freiburg remain in the ninth spot of the Bundesliga standings.

"Wolfsburg wrapped up a deserved victory today. They staged an experienced and serene performance," Freiburg head coach Christian Streich said.
