More than 140 jobs were offered to young people from Hong Kong and Macao to work in Qianhai as part of a program that encourages youth from the two special administrative regions to work in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a Qianhai official said on Tuesday.

The move comes after the official launch of the Greater Bay Area Youth Employment Scheme by Hong Kong government earlier this month

The Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone in Shenzhen will offer at least 100 posts per month to young people from Hong Kong and Macao, Wang Jinxia, deputy head of the Authority of Qianhai, said at a signing ceremony for several projects in Qianhai on Tuesday, during which the recruitment plan was announced.

“The move is a concrete measure by Qianhai to support Hong Kong and Macao youths’ integration into the national development,” Wang said.

“During the process, young people from Hong Kong and Macao will see the new economy, new industries, new technologies and new modes (that are developing on the Chinese mainland) and feel the rapid pace of national development. This will help strengthen their confidence in the future.”

The move comes after the official launch of the Greater Bay Area Youth Employment Scheme by Hong Kong government earlier this month, which aims to encourage local young people to pursue their career in mainland cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

A total of 2,000 salaried positions of at least HK$18,000 (US$2,322) per month will be offered under the program.

According to a recent survey released by the Young Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong on Sunday, 77.9 percent of the Hong Kong young people surveyed said they would consider participating in the program, with salary being the most important factor affecting their decisions.

Seventy six percent of the respondents said they had heard of the plan and nearly 70 percent said a monthly wage of HK$18,000 to HK$26,000 is attractive to them.

The Jan 4-20 survey querying Hong Kong residents 18-35 years old garnered 312 responses.
