CBA: Beijing edges Guangzhou, Shenzhen goes on 5-game winning streak

ZHUJI, China - Beijing Ducks edged Guangzhou Loong Lions 102-100 in the 2020-2021 China Basketball Association (CBA) League here on Tuesday, pushing Guangzhou into a five-game losing streak.

Beijing guard Jonathan Gibson collected 28 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists, while Zhai Xiaochuan pocketed 17 points plus eight rebounds and six assists. Dallas Moore of Guangzhou got 36 points and seven assists.

After a tight 19-15 first quarter in favor of Beijing, Guangzhou managed to catch up briefly midway through the second quarter, yet Beijing widened the lead at 46-39 before the half break.

Only until the last minute in the game did Guangzhou get its best chance to level the game, as guard Tian Yuheng hit a three from the corner to narrow the gap to four points, but it was too late. With Moore hitting a consolation layup at the buzzer, Guangzhou lost to Beijing 102-100 to swallow a five-game losing streak.

In the other game on Tuesday, thanks to Askia Booker's game-high 35 points, the Shenzhen Aviators overpowered the Jiangsu Dragons 114-95 for a five-game win streak.

Shenzhen's local forward Gu Quan scored 20, while He Xining and Yang Linyi each had 18. Devin Williams from Jiangsu notched 23 points and 11 rebounds while Dezmine Wells added 13.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, the Zhejiang Golden Bulls beat the Qingdao Eagles 127-120 powered by Sylven Landesberg's shocking performance of 49 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. The Liaoning Flying Leopards smashed the Shandong Heroes 122-109 for its seventh straight win.
