Official calls for legal efforts for new five-year plan period

BEIJING - A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Saturday called for legal efforts to ensure a good start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).

Guo Shengkun, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting to study the guiding principles of the Central Economic Work Conference held from Wednesday to Friday.

The conference reviewed the country's economic work in 2020, analyzed the current situation and arranged the economic work for the next year.

Urging efforts on the legal front to forge a fair and law-based business environment, Guo highlighted legal guarantee for establishing the new development paradigm and realizing high-quality development.

He also called for implementing a holistic approach to national security, giving top priority to political security, and pushing the Peaceful China initiative to a higher level.
